Milepost 5 hires Gavin Shettler as Creative Director
Milepost 5 is excited to welcome Gavin Shettler to Milepost Five as the new Creative Director. Mr. Shettler brings a wealth of experience, creative input, and passion to serve the contemporary arts community to the project through his years working in commercial galleries and from his last position as executive director of the non-profit arts organization, the Portland Art Center. His duties will include developing, implementing and maintaining systems for community building and communication within Milepost 5, and between Milepost 5 and the larger Portland arts community. Gavin will be working closely with the current project team of HOST development, BEAM development, Jesse Beason of City Commissioner Sam Adams office, and Works Partnership Architecture on vision, conceptualization, use of space, mission, and tenant development. Mr. Shettler will also spearhead visual arts and performance programming throughout the Milepost 5 site.
Milepost Five is a new concept in development strategies for creating affordable and sustainable live/work spaces for artists in a health, interactive, community setting. By teaming non-profit and for profit developers, Milepost 5 creates an economic sanctuary where artists will never be priced out of. This unique community will serve not only the residents of Milepost 5, but also the larger arts community as well through providing programming space for performance, visual arts, lectures, workshops, meeting spaces, and studio space. Milepost Five consists of two main buildings on a two-block campus located in the Montevilla neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. The Lofts building consists of 54 live/work condominiums (completed), and The Studios consists of up to 103 live/work studios, gallery space, performance space, and space for commercial use (completed in 2009).
