The Studios is the second phase of Milepost 5. This 47,000 square foot building will house over 100 work- or live/work studios plus extensive commercial and common space.

Upstairs: 105 work- or live/work Studios
 (floors 2 & 3). Rents range from $190 - $375 per month. Target move-in September 2010.

First floor: commercial- common- work- and live/work spaces opening this fall.

The Studios will offer:

• Multiple art gallery spaces to show- and sell- the work produced at Milepost 5, and show work by local, national and international artists.
• An art supply store by Muse Art and Design
• An on-site Creative Director, with hours available to assist residents with networking, marketing, and showing their work. (Creative Director: Gavin Shettler)
• A restaurant / café
• A live performance venue
• An organic community garden
• Shared shop space with tool library
• Community kitchen on each floor

Studios share common kitchen space. Most studio units have their own bathroom. Many shared bathrooms are available for the rest. Some multi-room suites.

As we reserve spaces in The Studios, top priority will go to residents of Milepost 5, Phase 1, The Lofts. Lofts residents get to priority selection on Studios spaces, are exempted from the application process, and receive rent reduction on their Studios space.

All units are live/work spaces so you can live in it, work in it, or do both. Artists can share work spaces-or rent multiple studios: live in one and work in another.

The Studios occupies the south building on the Milepost 5 campus--a nearly-100-year-old, 47,000 square foot, slate-roofed, brick building with an open central courtyard. Located in the up-and-coming Montavilla neighborhood of Portland, it is the second- and final- phase of Milepost 5's development plan.


The Submission Process for The Studios


We have a short, non-rigorous, submission- and selection- process, meant to determine if the applicant is a working creative who would appropriately benefit from MP5 environment. Selection is NOT based upon aesthetic style or limited to type of creative pursuit. Our goal is creating a community of active, working creatives following a broad range of pursuits, professions, and passions-where writers, painters, filmmakers, sculptors, musicians, designers, etc. are all living and working side-by-side in a supportive and dynamic environment.
